What is the foremost addiction?
Which is the mother of all addictions? It is not smoking and it is not alcohol. Because some how you can quit from these habits. But there is another habit of greater dependency. Well, most of us do not realize it. The greatest of all addictions is the habituation of Prayer! True; yes prayer is an addiction.
Prayer is also an escapism. Running away from fear, running away from difficulties; the chilling truth about this addiction is; you can never get rid of it. Your difficulties increase day by day. Hope and desire glues your future to this dependency. And finally one day everything is busted and you land up in a place of no return.
If prayer of a religion give results to every problem a person asks for, then it is very clear that everyone wants to join that religion. This is because we have seen the result of prayer of that religion. But in real life there are no answers to prayers but our desire for solution tend us blindly to believe that one day it is going to be answered. The remarkable salesmanship of the priests make a person believes that prayer will be answered under his guidance.
If you claim your prayer is answered, then you must make it clear as how your prayers were answered. Did God actually speak to you? Or did you receive the results without an answer? We know very well that Gods don’t talk. They talked only in the past.
The strength of prayer is directly proportional to the level of difficulty we are facing. As an addiction, the temptation for prayer increases when fear and anxiety increases and we are uncertain of help and solution. It may not be an illness; it may not be anything life threatening but it could be something which may result in some heavy loss of wealth or otherwise, harming your reputation or anything you don’t want to happen.
So in difficulties and when I am confident it is not life threatening or harmful then I may not pray. Normally we pray hard when we have hard times.
Addiction is dependency. Somehow when your problems get solved, without consciousness, you attribute the happy ending to prayer. Mostly we are forced to believe this by the work of middlemen or the so called priests.
Let me ask you a very scary question. What will happen if we do not pray?
When I was born all knowing god knew what would happen to my future and how long I will live. Is it possible for my prayer to change the knowledge he held since then? If it changes then does it mean he is not all knowing? Because his knowledge then and now is different since prayer has changed it.
Once When I had a problem I prayed. My pastor said I had to pray more. Another pastor told me that I had to keep praying until God was pleased with me. A third pastor said I should cry and pray. My problem increased and at one instance I decided not to pray. But I worked out a solution for that. The time you find out that prayer cannot contribute any solution to your problems, you will learn to live and face the problem. You will be brought down from illusions to reality. But this realization is the difficult part.
Now that I have crossed that part, I want everyone to try it out.
Our forefathers believed and imagined heaven like a King's court. So by praising, god will show mercy and will grant your wish like the way a King had distributed gifts.
I know the greatest failure for all who preach against prayer, which includes me, is that they do not have any alternate solution for this illusion held by a person who prays.
Facing the difficulties is an issue to many. We do not have the habit of talking to someone about our worries, someone whom we can trust, or who can help us to overcome our difficulties. You can talk anything to God, a fictitious figure, and no one can hear. We have to find someone who can help in getting through our unresolved problems. We go to a doctor when we have medical problems. So may be someone, a professional, may be a well experienced psychologist, can make us aware of the problems we are facing and in choosing the appropriate professional.
The most common reply is "I know God heard the prayers of so many people.” and also “I personally have many experiences of my god". They do not want to understand the truth that without prayer better results can be achieved. People who drag others to prayer should justify their actions one day.
Remember Sreeman Mishu Barua, Bangladeshi poet, has said;
O people, confirm your actions
you walked a lot in this planet "by God's grace"
now why don’t you become responsible for yourself?
one more from him about spirituality;
All the sellers listen to thee
how long will you sell
your faulty goods duty-free
